Blue Unicorn
In 2024, The Institute became the publisher of Blue Unicorn, a paying, all-poetry magazine that draws contributors from around the world. Founded in 1977 in the UC Berkeley orbit by Ruth Iodice, BU was one of the rare publications that never discouraged meter, rhyme, and other types of form. Today the key word is not “form” but the broader concept of “craft.” The editors intend to throw a lifeline to poets, formalist or not, who demand a lot of themselves and the language they use.
Submissions are received via our online portal (also by e-mail and even snail mail). The magazine appears twice a year. Subscriptions are $25 for print and digital editions (pdf), $12 for digital only.
